#Gintama funny series#
The episodes of the Japanese anime series Gintama were animated by Sunrise. Then there’s the Vacation Arc, which features my absolute favorite scene between Gintoki and Hijikata: the snowboarding scene.Aniplex's first DVD released for Gintama. I’d also say the Gender Swap arc is not only tastefully done compared to other takes on the subject, but outright hilarious. Another great one is the famous “toilet” episode, which amusingly is part of the Yagyu Arc. The second revolves around the new Four Devas trying to come up with a mascot to cultivate a more positive image for the Kabuki District, and nobody can quite agree on the best image to project. The first half consists of Our Heroic Trio trying to design a poster to drum up new business, and fixating on one of the Mother series’ posters for inspiration.
Episode 274 is possibly the funniest standalone episode, though. The first involves Shinpachi asking Gintoki for help in hiding some ecchi manga from his sister, and Gin coming up with some truly inspired approaches for misdirection. I’ll give you a couple of examples that make me cry with laughter every time.

Some of the standalone segments are comedy gold in ways the full arcs aren’t. I can’t remember the name of the episode, but the one where Gintama ascended to a whole new level of meta: when the artwork for the episode was left unfinished, and the characters are confused as hell by all the missing colors and limited movement (and occasional missing faces), then berate the studio for being lazy when Shinpachi explains what’s going on.
